I thought that I would join TSF as I have heard from a lot of people who use it.
I have helped a few people within professional sport around building confidence, dealing with nerves and finding motivation with excellent results.

I’m hoping that I may be able to help those on here who are looking to improve their game and to meet a few new people who love snooker.

Hi and hello,
I'm from the US, living in Istanbul. I happened across snooker last year on Eurosport and couldn't stop watching! I searched around online to learn about the rules and then later joined the board to learn more about the sport (and about the different characters within it :) )
I never enjoyed playing pool or billiards. I think the reason I find the sport so engaging is the slow-burning drama (to quote one of the commentators). My other favorite sport to watch is baseball which is similar in that it's long and the game can take a while to develop.

Thanks to all for your humor and insights. I've learned a lot and that makes spectating even more enjoyable.

Hi to everyone.

I have been lurking here for the last couple of months gleaning a ton of information and thought it appropriate that I say hi and thanks.

I was a century break snooker player 30 years ago and unfortunately a job move to a place without snooker tables (good old Canada) forced a change to 8 ball. After 10 years of that I hung up my cue.

2 months ago, I picked up my cue again after 20 years in the closet and am busy fixing the holes in my technique that 10 years of 8 ball and 20 years of inactivity have placed in my stroke. Had a 63 break earlier in the week so I think my goal of a century break by spring is reachable.

I must say I certainly am envious of new players who have this forum and youtube to help hone their skills. Nothing like this existed 45 years ago - particularly in my wasteland.

Anyhow, thanks to all the great contributors - this site truly is a wonderful place.

Hello all snookerloopy girls, boys, men, women, cats, dogs, forum readers, forum writers, legendary players, great players, good players, not THAT...

Hello all snookerloopy girls, boys, men, women, cats, dogs, forum readers, forum writers, legendary players, great players, good players, not THAT good players, average players, poor players and all don't-have-skills-good-enough-to-even-hit-the-pack-with-the-break-off-shot players!

I myself seem to find myself in that last category all the time, but it's all good fun, right? Even though I am completely sucked into the world of snooker, I come from, and live in, not so snookerloopy Norway. And that sucks just a little bit!

If I had the opportunity I would probably have been playing snooker on about 80-90% of my free time. But of course, sadly that's quite a bit far from possible in this country. Very few tables, and the ones that are usually lack that little thing we like to call reasonable quality.

But at least I get to watch a lot of quality snooker on EuroSport, and worldsnooker.com and global-snooker.com are the most frequently visited sites on my computer. And even though I have been a massive snookerfan for just 5 years, I have read most of the sports history and watched all the most memorable moments of the game on the net, like the Davis/Taylor final in 1985, White's sixth World Championship final defeat, Higgins' just plain ridiculous clearance against that same man in the '82 semi final, O'Sullivan's magical 147, Hendry's seventh world title and Hunter's three Masters titles.

And to those of you who for any reason just can't take the hint, I will just say it exactly as it is: I love snooker. And I love it so much that I probably would have married had it been a person. Even if it had been a Leatherface-like dude with boobs on his stomach.

And of course I have a favourite player. Or, perhaps not as much a favourite as an idol. And it is NOT Ronnie O'Sullivan. To be frank I actually don't like him that much. Of course snooker wouldn't be the same without him, but his personality is just a bit too... shall we say interesting for my liking.
No, my snooker idol is "Welsh, Gorgeous and owns a Ferrari" as someone once said. Matthew Stevens is insanely talented and entertaining to watch as a player, and he just seems like a really great guy. Plus, his career is this typical "someone up there doesn't seem to like me for some reason" career, with so many nearly's and sad moments. So you really want him to do well, because he deserves it so much.

But he is not my only favourite player. Being a Norwegian snooker fan, I am of course rooting for Kurt Maflin all the time. In my eyes he is the most naturally gifted player ever to not have gotten that big breakthrough. His career have also suffered under unfortunate circumstances at times, but when you see him at his best you just know that he in reality is a world class player. And, last but not least, I am proud to call myself a fan and a friend of Jack Lisowski. His cancer story really made a big impression on me, something I told him, and then he replied and we have just kept in touch ever since. I have always expected a really good career from him, but when I had a little practice game with him during the WC qualifiers this spring, and he made a 112 break in the first frame in a little less than 10 minutes, I realized that he is probably one of the greatest future stars of the game. And after the first part of this season that has been confirmed in style.

Working with snooker on TV and film is a big ambition and dream of mine, since I really want to share the entire greatness of it with as many people as possible. And it is great to have found and online forum with so many die hard snooker fans!

Thanks to everyone involved for making this game what it is: magical!

Hi folks,

having played snooker for almost 20 years now, it was only recently that I came across this forum. I love reading your posts (especially on cues) and I always wonder how much some people do know about snooker.

Maybe those people could help me out with some information, quotes by other players, funny stories, or encounters they had with on of the two players above.

As I am going to be the master of ceremony at a little exhibition, it would be nice to have something beyond Wikipedia or worldsnooker.

Don't hesitate to email me at michaelzanker at yahoo dot com as I'm 'too young' for pn and the exhibition is, er, tomorrow.

Cheers

Hi all,

Thought I'd join a Snooker forum and this one seems a great place to start!

I've been playing since I was 5 years old on and off and really want to fall back in love with Snooker. Over the years my interest had wained somewhat so hopefully reading and discussing it will get me right back into it!

Have a game tonight with my long time snooker friend and much looking forward to it!

I'm also very interested in reading a Power Snooker discussion!

All the best,
