The only finalists who did not make a century during the tournament are Perrie Mans (runner-up in 1978, highest break 68) and Ray Reardon (runner-up in 1982, highest break 98).
Eventual champions Steve Davis (1987) and Alex Higgins (1982) are the only other two players to reach the final without making a century (highest break 98 in both cases); however both made a century in the final. Thus no player has become champion without making a century.
