missneworleans

Player A pots the last red and snooker and snooker himself and player B gets a free ball
Player B pots yellow as a free ball than pots it as a colour and then as the cheapest colour=3 yellows in a row

Player A fouls with reds on the table potting the yellow (1st time) leaving a free ball, player B nominates Yellow as free ball and potts it (2nd time) player B the Potts yellow for the 3rd time s the colour after the free ball???

flame
22nd February 2010, 06:40 PM
if player A pots last red player B has no reds as a free ball.

Player A has free ball, pots yellow as free ball then pots yellow as nominated colour he then plays at a red but mis cues and hits the yellow instead potting it for the 3rd time??

flame
22nd February 2010, 06:59 PM
no fouls by player A

player has a free ball with a single red left. Playing the yellow as a free ball, both red and then yellow are potted (single shot), followed by yellow as nominated colour and then yellow again

flame

right peeps, player A pots yellow 3 times consecutively,no fouls,no other player involved.i know i should have said this from the outset, but hey it's just a bit of fun,(and you never think of the ingenious minds of you lot lol)

I thought potting yellow as a free ball and a red in a single shot is a foul:confused:
and how many points is that?

22nd February 2010, 07:40 PM
Taking the yellow as a free ball (ie acting as a red) its ok to pot two reds (or more) at a time
(as long as you hit the yellow first)

flame

quite right jrc.

Player has a free ball on the last red and nominates yellow as his free ball. He then strikes yellow first but goes on to pot both red and the yellow, scoring two points. He then takes the yellow as his colour, which is then spotted to be potted as the first of the six colours.

Yes, for some reason I skipped from page 1 to page 3!

The only way is this...player B fouls with one red left on table in jaws of pocket but leaving player B a free ball. Yellow is directly in line with red over pocket.

Player A nominates yellow as his free ball and pots BOTH red and yellow (2 points), then takes yellow as his nominated colour after potting a red and then takes his third yellow as part of the colours

Terry, why do you say red as to be in the jaws, surely it can be anywhere on the table, apologies if i have misinterpreted you.

I set it up that way as it's the easiest to visualize and also since that is the most common occurance where a player pots 2 balls.

Of course the last red can be anywhere on the table but to get the 3 yellows in a row the play MUST pot both yellow and red on the first shot.

The red being over the pocket is the easiest way to do it unless you happen to be a very expert billiards player or can judge cannons, plus it wouldn't be a fluke on the red if it's in the jaws.

As a new player, this quiz was actually quite helpful with the nuances of the rules.

Souwester

*Total* clearance = starting the break with 15 reds on the table, and finishing it by potting the black.

How can you do that by scoring as little as 37 points?

Have a think about it .

pot the black as well as the pink at the end :D
edit: wouldnt work that -because the pink wouldnt be counted as it was a foul shot

Can you explain how you get to 37 or 44 .

Total consecutive clearance : 15 reds 15 yellows and all the colours = 72 .

Same reasoning as the last question mate - if you pot your first red but the white ball then also knocks in ALL the other reds on the table in the same shot, isn't that 15pts? Then the yellow as a colour then all the colours - that makes 44 I think. Not sure about how to get it down to 37 though lol :o)

i think i got it... upon potting the pink you are on 37, then you pot the black and go in-off! so 37 to you and 7 to your opponent! that's a total clearance too ;)

Thanks for the reply , i was not thinking 'outside the box '! . My reasoning for 72 ......i was in the real world

There is more chance of Elvis playing Michael Jackson at the Crucible next year than that happening :D

That's NOT a total clearance though, as a total clearance is defined as the legal potting of every ball on the table at the start of the frame, well certainly that is what is implied by the phrase

Hear! Hear! Fouling on the black does *NOT* make that a total clearance. 99.9% of players and referees will tell you that a total clearance means legally potting *ALL* the balls.
