Tony Drago is first to go through ... 5-1 ... speedy as ever!:D
David Gray wins 5-0 vs Lee Spick. Is it that David Gray got the shot in the arm he needed and finally wakes up? Or was it Lee Spick being terrible?

Good win for Tony, these first matches are so important because of the ranking points system.
The Gray-Spick match was a very scrappy affair judging by the frame scores with only one half-century (a 54).

There were quite a few pretty convincing victories in today's morning session (judging by the scorelines). Li Hang v Brendan O'Donoghue was the only close affair.

These journeymen (M. Davis, Gunnell, Dunn, Campbell, Burnett etc.) are very tough to beat in their first round matches not just for former greats but for young talents too. Maybe it's because they are more used to the conditions, but playing against someone who plays his third match in three days might help as well.

Fair enough then.
It's another small example of where snooker is stuck in the dark ages really. In tennis for example, even for the lesser tournaments, you can load their livescores and see a raft of statistics from the match. The equivalent of snooker having the pot success, safety success, high breaks for players and more on offer really.
Obviously they are different sports but the current livescores system on World Snooker hasn't been improved for as long as I can remember it being there and only provides the bare minimum really.
At the very worst even a page like this (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Rankings/MatchFacts.aspx) for snooker would be interesting for me.

I strongly agree with your idea, and in GS Tennis, they use the slam tracker and tells you if the point was won with a winner or an unforced error. It would be really good to see when a player's break ended whether he just ran out of position and played safe or missed a pot.
If this is too hard to be done, then, some stats should be very easily implemented to the current system. They revised their main page design, news section, etc. , but they're still yet to make a move on this.
Barry down 0-2 to Mark Joyce, Dott the same way, Steve down by four and with the exception of Matthew and Nigel, all of the seeds are in trouble ;)

The scoring system works with a remote-control type device, that has a button for each colour and a button for a foul, presumably visit over and end of frame. Whenever a break is in progress the ref or scorer will tap away entering the details of the break.
The only thing that could possibly be added would be what balls have been potted in the break, maybe a look back at previous frame scores. You wouldn't be able to get pot success and safety success as these aren't linked to the livescoring system. For qualifying matches I wouldn't even think these are worked out??

0-5 seems to be a very harsh score for Graeme Dott
36-89(51), 59(59)-73(38,35), 33-66(34), 63(63)-70(42), 68(60)-75(rsb)
frame scores suggest a much closer match. And losing on respotted black to top it off.

I was watching the Trump match online, it's well presented with Dale doing the commentary. Trump had a couple of chances to take it to 4-4 but wasn't able to step up. Wenbo this afternoon versus Dale?! Any idea?

Of course its not easy whoever you play at this level but the likes of Liang seem to be progressing slightly quicker maybe...

I think the way it's going at the moment he's only likely to produce his best in the premier league.

It's the third ranker in a row where Trump fails to qualify. And he lost to a wild card in the China Open aswell... In fact since he won the Championship League snooker he hasn't done much.

Hope Shanghai doesn't go to Wenbo's head. Plus, Dale beat him at the Welsh Open.

Actually, if we start counting from last season, this is the 5th consecutive time Judd failed to reach the televised stages
So far in his career, he only showed flashes of good talent, but failed to impress in match play in my opinion.
Just forgot to add: We can't expect a 20-year-older to shine so quickly. Maybe it's my problem to expect him to turn into something like Ronnie or Mark J.

:D Well, I did. Numerous times. His best display for me was at the worlds when he reached the QF, against Ken, if I don't remember wrong.
But I still don't rate him as someone capable of becoming an all-time legend in the future ;)

ah i see what you mean, excite as in talented match player rather than exciting - go for everything, all out attack :)
yeah i agree he doesnt seem like a solid player yet (still alot of risk in his game) but i think thats just the way hes always gonna play, seems to be working for him at the moment :)

I like him as an attacking player, but unless he changes his style, he is going to be another Tony Drago.
And no offense to Tornado, he is a great player, but if he still has less than 100 century breaks(98), this is just because he never changed what was wrong with his game.
Anyway, if Ronnie started to play like Peter Ebdon and won 10 more world titles, I would definitely not like it. There are snooker greats, snooker stars and crowd-entertainers. Liang is probably going to take his place in the last group. That does not mean he is going to be a complete loser though. He's going to win a ranking event or two someday.
